PAYING A VISIT \ Group takes cultural tour

Dr. George D. Beelen, professor emeritus of Latin America history at Youngstown State University, and Luba Horsky of AAA Travel led a group of 26 U.S. citizens on a cultural tour of Cuba in early March. Under the Cuban Assets Control Regulations, travel to Cuba by U.S. residents is severely restricted and spending money relating to Cuban travel is prohibited unless the traveler is licensed. AAA arranged this cultural tour to Cuba under a specific license issued to World Guest by the U.S. Department of Treasury. Despite the fact that the United States and Cuba have no formal diplomatic relations and no embassies, each country has an Interests Section in the other country and our group was provided a briefing in the U.S. Interests Section in Cuba. Dr. Beelen last visited Cuba in 1979.
