Mathews officials discuss plans for elementary schools

VIENNA -- Baker and Currie elementary schools are one step closer to getting more than $150,000 in renovations.
On Tuesday, the Mathews Board of Education discussed plans for new waste treatment plants at both elementary schools. Bill McKausky of Lynn, Kittinger & amp; Noble Inc. architects of Warren presented plans to the board.
The plans called for a new septic system at Currie Elementary. The current system is outdated under Ohio Environmental Protection Agency standards.
Estimated cost for that plant is $118,000.
The new plant at Currie would be located along the east side of the existing facility, which would be torn down.
McKausky also said the plant at Currie would be able to handle 1,400 people attending football games if needed.
Because of the cost, plans for Baker Elementary are to update the septic system rather than replace it.
There is no estimated cost yet, but it would be less than the Currie facility, McKausky said.
The district got $197,576 grant from the Ohio School Facilities Commission last fall for emergency repairs.
The board will advertise for bids on the septic projects.
