Taft names state agency director
COLUMBUS -- Gov. Bob Taft named Cuyahoga Falls native Hope Janke to be the interim director of the Office of Criminal Justice Services.
Janke, 43, is taking the reins from Domingo Herraiz, who left earlier this month after President Bush announced his intention to nominate Herraiz as director of the federal Bureau of Justice Assistance.
Janke said she is unsure whether she'll be a candidate for the permanent position.
As interim director, Janke will oversee the administration and evaluation of state and federal grants for law enforcement, victims assistance, juvenile justice, crime prevention and courts programs through the state.
The state's criminal justice services agency employs about 40 and administers more than $30 million in state and federal criminal justice funds annually.
The agency also evaluates programs and develops technology for criminal justice professionals.
Janke joined the state agency in 2000 and is the agency's assistant director. Janke previously served as the assistant director for the Ohio Crime Prevention Association.
Janke attended the North Carolina Central University School of Law and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Akron.
There was no word as to when a permanent director would be named, the state said.
