FLOOD INSURANCE | Myths vs. facts
Myth: Flood insurance cannot be bought unless you are in a flood zone, or cannot be bought if you are in a flood zone.
Fact: Flood insurance can be bought for any structure or its contents in a community that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program, regardless of flood zone. There are more than 600 communities in Ohio, as well as 86 of the state's 88 counties, in the NFIP.
Myth: Homeowner insurance policies cover floods.
Fact: Most homeowner policies specify that claims made because of flood damage aren't covered.
Myth: Flood insurance can be bought only for homes.
Fact: Flood insurance can be bought for any structure, including homes, businesses, local government buildings and schools.
