Zwick vs. Smith: With much attention this spring being focused on the match-up between Justin Zwick and Troy Smith to be the starting quarterback of the future, both players proved their legitimacy in that much anticipated battle. Zwick connected on 17 of 29 for 217 yards and four TD's while Smith completed 18 of 36 passes for 215 yards and a score.
"I think they did well. It was a little bit like the entire spring has gone," Tressel said. "They both showed that they can make some plays and they both showed that they have made some mistakes. I think they both demonstrated though that they can make some plays and they have some ability and they like to play and they like to compete."
With Craig Krenzel back for his final season and senior Scott McMullen being a capable backup, Zwick and Smith are working hard to improve their respective games in case their number is called upon in the fall.
"My confidence has basically been the same just as far as knowing that I can make plays when I get the opportunity to make plays," Smith said. "But I feel pretty good. I feel real good as far as learning this playbook and learning how to read defenses and all of the above."
Like Smith, Zwick seems content with the progress he's made since he's been at Ohio State.
"I'm just out here trying to do my best and become a better quarterback every day at practice, and that's really how I look at things," Zwick said. "Craig's the man and I'm just here trying to get better underneath him and it's just a little more relaxed I would say."
