SOFTBALL ROUNDUP Boardman drops first game

Western Reserve used two seventh-inning rallies to beat Crestview.
ASHLAND -- The Boardman High girls softball team was handed its first loss of the season, losing 3-2 to Oak Park, Ill., Saturday in the Wendy's Classic.
Jennifer Pancake (11-1) of the Spartans worked a complete game as she scattered five hits, one of them a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Unbeaten Oak Park (17-0, 4-0 Wendy's Classic) tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.
In an earlier game, Boardman defeated Northern Burlington (12-5) of New Jersey, 7-3.
Pancake, who came on in relief of Ashley DiDomenico in the second inning, worked six innings to pick up the win.
Audrey Martinko hit two singles and drove in two runs for the Spartans.
Boardman (15-1) finished 3-1 in the Classic.
Mineral Ridge 8-6, Niles 1-1
NILES -- A six-run sixth inning by Mineral Ridge put the first game of a doubleheader out of reach as Sylvia Dubic and Katie Garland each hit two-run singles the victory.
Brandi McLean (2-0) pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and only one walk in the opener.
In the second game, Kaili Gehring (13-3) worked a complete game three-hitter, striking out 11 and walking two.
Katie Olive hit a two-run home run in the third inning. Sarah Stark hit a pair of singles, scored once and stole a base for the Rams (15-3).
Canfield 5-14, Akron East 0-3
CANFIELD -- Megan Turocy (11-2) tossed a two-hitter for her seventh shutout. Nikki Garrett' had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs. Ginny Naples and Stephanie Mistovich also had two hits.
In the second game, Stephanie Zunic hit an inside-the-park homer and tripled twice for the Cardinals (15-4). Elizabeth Brown's three hits included a triple. Garrett also had three hits while Turocy had two and three RBIs.
Western Reserve 13-3,Crestview 12-2
BERLIN CENTER -- Deanna Zamudio and Tiffany Shugart drove in the winning runs in the seventh innings for Western Reserve, as the Blue Devils swept a doubleheader.
Zamudio singled to drive in Katie Harmon, who had tripled, to snap a 12-12 tie and give Western Reserve the win in the first game. Zamudio had four singles and four RBIs.
Shugart and Tiffany Palumbo each had two singles and two RBIs while Katie Harmon added a triple, double, single and one RBI to support the Blue Devils.
For Crestview, Kelsie Jo Ray had two singles and three RBIs.
In the nightcap, Shugart singled home Quinn McCammon with the game-winner for the Blue Devils (16-2). McCammon had tied the game at 2 on a two-run single.
Shugart also had a triple while Zamudio again finished with four singles.
Harmon (5-0) pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and four walks.
Jackson-Milton 2-10, Southeast 1-4
RAVENNA -- Senior Corey Velk went 4-for-4 and pitched a seven-hitter with four strikeouts in Jackson-Milton's 10-4 win.
Jayne Fenton and Niki James had two hits apiece for the Bluejays (12-4).
In the second game, Kay Bruss knocked in Shannon McGee from second base with the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning. McGee singled to start the inning before Fenton's sacrifice bunt advanced McGee to second.
Bruss's single was one of two in the first game. Also for JM, James and Rhea Weimer both had two singles
Velk pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Trommel had two singles and Southeast's lone RBI.
Springfield 5, South Range 3
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- Brooke Szelazek and Coleen Platt each had two hits for the Tigers (6-7, 5-4 ICL).
For the Raiders (8-7, 5-5), Amy Algeo had two triples and Andrea Hazel doubled.
Hubbard 15-19, Southington 8-3
HUBBARD -- The Eagles had 17 hits in the opener, including four by Brittany McKee, who also scored four runs. Amanda Taylor (4-2) scattered four hits in a complete game victory.
Every Eagle in the starting lineup had at least one hit in the second game.
Hubbard (9-6) had 18 hits, scored 10 runs in the first inning and eight in the second. Anna DeJulio had two doubles, two singles and scored three runs.
McKee (1-0) worked a complete game three-hitter game.
