AMERICAN LEAGUE Ordonez hits two homers, but Chicago fans don't lay off the boos

The White Sox beat the Twins in a game marred by a bench-clearing brawl.

CHICAGO -- Magglio Ordonez hit two home runs Saturday and Jon Garland pitched well before he was ejected as the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins, 7-4.
Frank Thomas and Carlos Lee also homered for Chicago. The benches cleared after Minnesota's Doug Mientkiewicz was hit by a pitch for the second straight night.
A.J. Pierzynski, Corey Koskie and pinch-hitter Michael Cuddyer homered for the Twins.
Garland (1-2), pitching to keep his spot in the rotation after three shaky outings in his first four starts, was tossed in the sixth after plunking Mientkiewicz, two batters after Koskie homered.
The benches emptied for several minutes and there was some pushing and shoving in the infield, but no major fighting between teams that have been trading barbs since spring training.
Minnesota reliever LaTroy Hawkins, who was not in the game, was also ejected. Chicago center fielder Armando Rios left the game, but it was not immediately clear why. A spokesman said he was not ejected.
Mientkiewicz, who last week suggested that Chicago should lose its role as host of the All-Star game after a fan ran on the field and attacked an umpire, was booed loudly for the second straight game.
Garland hit Mientkiewicz in the back side -- one inning after Ordonez was hit for the second straight game. Mientkiewicz pointed his bat toward the mound.
Plate umpire Bruce Froemming immediately ejected Garland and the benches emptied. Tom Gordon relieved Garland, who went 52/3 innings, giving up four hits and two runs.
