Ironman on May 4
The Lawrence County Sportsmans Association will hold its annual Ironman All-round Shotgun Shooting Championship on May 4.
The shoot consists of 50-sporting clays, 25 20-yard Wobble trap targets, 26 double skeet targets and 25-five-stand sporting clays targets.
High-over-all award is $150 (Not eligible for Lewis class money). Lewis class pays first and second in three classes with $75 for first and $50 for second. Other awards include $60 each for top gun in skeet, trap, five-stand and sporting clay disciplines. There will be a separate sporting clay competition.
Cost is $60 per person and $30 for those 17 and younger. Lunch is included in the cost.
Gun raffle planned
The Trumbull County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs will hold a 50 gun raffle from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3 at the Yankee Lake Ballroom in Brookfield.
There will be one gun drawn every six minutes for five hours. Gun chance tickets are $20 and include lunch of roast beef sandwiches and unlimited drinks. There will be 17 local clubs holding side raffles for ATV's, trips and prize packets. Tickets will be sold through April 30, call (330) 534-3601 for details.
BOATING
Free inspection available
A free boat inspection by the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary can clear up confusion on boat regulations. If you don't understand all the new local, state and federal recreational boating regulations, call your local Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla and request a free vessel courtesy check. A local Auxiliary courtesy inspector will answer all your questions, and check out all your safety equipment.

Outdoors help sought
To better serve the recreational needs of the Meander, Mill Creek and Yellow Creek watersheds, A.W.A.R.E (Alliance for Watershed Action and Riperian Easements), is asking that outdoorsmen and women take a brief survey. It can be found on the A.W.A.R.E. Web site www.watershed.cboss.com by clicking on the opinion button on the bottom of the left side column.
Fish sale April 29
The Mahoning County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold its annual spring fish sale April 29.
Orders must be placed by Friday at the MCSWCD office, 490 South Broad St., Canfield, by calling (330) 533-2231, or by visiting the agency Web site, www.mahoningswcd.org, and downloading sale information and forms.
Species available for purchase include largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, redear shellcrackers, perch, minnows and white amur.
PENNSYLVANIA
2003-2004 seasons, bag limits approved
The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners recently gave final approval to hunting and trapping seasons and bag limits for 2003-04, including new wildlife management units and continued, but modified, antler restrictions for deer hunting.
UAmong other items were the following:
UApproved use of the new .17 caliber rim-fire cartridge to take small game, furbearers, crows and other wildlife, and to dispatch furbearer taken in traps;
UClarified fluorescent orange requirements for archery seasons during the overlap with firearms deer seasons;
UClarified fluorescent orange requirements in certain circumstances.

EDUCATION
Men's pistol course set
The Vienna Fish and Game Club will host an NRA basic pistol course for men from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday and also April 30 and May 7.
The course will emphasize the safe and proper handling and use of pistols. Participants will learn about firearm safety, parts and operation, shooting fundamentals, care and cleaning and much more. The course will be taught by Mark Baranski, an NRA certified instructor.
Cost is $30 per student, and students must be 21 or older and must provide their own eye and ear protection.

Tournament results
Results of the Budweiser Series bass tournament held earlier this month at Tappan Reservoir:
1. Bob Cox (Tippecanoe) and Bob Cox Jr. (Dennison), 4 fish, 9.05 pounds, $480; 2. Carl McHugh and Ben Ossio, Toronto, 3 fish, 4.13 pounds, $336; 3. Chopper Phillips and Ken Edie of New Philadelphia, 2 fish, 4.01 pounds, $288; 4. Rich DiDonato and Bob Murphy of New Philadelphia, 3 fish, 3.11 pounds, $216; 5. Mike Smith (Strasburg) and Todd Jackson (New Philadelphia), 2 fish , 3.03 pounds, $192.
Big bass weighed in at 5.13 pounds and was caught by Bob Cox Jr. of Dennison.
Next tournament will be May 10 at Berlin Lake. Launch will be at the Bonner Road Ramp, 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Registration starts at 4:30 a.m.
TRAPPING
Convention planned Friday and Saturday
The Ohio State Trappers Association will hold its spring convention Friday and Saturday at the Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton.
