WAMPUM, PA. Group promotes its contest for lawns, gardens
WAMPUM, Pa. -- Wampum Area Business Association members will be placing posters and entry forms around the Wampum, New Beaver and Chewton areas to kick off the group's annual lawn and garden contest.
Cathy Hoffmeier of the Ferrante Upholstering and Carpeting Showroom on state Route 18, Wampum, said New Beaver and Chewton residents have until the first week of July to landscape their yards, grow flower or vegetable gardens or add ornaments to be judged.
The top three winners will receive $150, $100 and $50 U.S. Savings Bonds, respectively.
Judging is done by area landscapers and floral experts, Hoffmeier said. The entries will be judged on creativity, beauty and the overall appearance of the lawn or garden, she said.
Use of lawn decorations and landscaping such as rock and water gardens, lily ponds and the like will all be taken into consideration during the judging, she said.
Hoffmeier emphasized that any resident of the three communities can compete, but in order to be judged, residents must enter by completing an entry form. Entry forms will be available at the post office and area banks and retail stores, she said.
