MAC SOFTBALL Poland tops Howland to stay perfect in loop



The Bulldogs used a two-run rally in the sixth inning to post a 5-3 win.
POLAND -- The Poland High softball team broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the sixth inning for a 5-3 victory over Howland, in a Metro Athletic Conference game Wednesday.
Steffi Graf had three singles and Britt Davis two more for the Bulldogs (8-1, 5-0). Mallory Conger earned the victory, pitching in relief of Jessie Lamport. Conger had four strikeouts and no walks.
For Howland (6-3, 4-2), Kristina Ferenac had three hits, while Meredith Schneider, Darcy Quinlan, Stephanie Cornicelli and Kim Moore each added two more.
Barb Lewis struck out four and walked four in the loss.
Canfield 7, Niles 1
CANFIELD -- Nikki Garrett had four hits, scored twice and drove in a run to lead Canfield (9-1, 5-1 MAC).
Elizabeth Brown and Ginny Naples doubled, while winning pitcher Megan Turocy (6-1) scattered seven hits and struck out nine batters.
The Red Dragons (1-6, 0-5) scored when Maria Caicco tripled and Ashley Byrom doubled.
Struthers 17, Salem 7
STRUTHERS -- Michelle High, Holly Hickenbottom and Jaime Zupko each had four hits for the Wildcats (2-8, 2-4 MAC).
Zupko had five RBIs, while Hickenbottom had four and High two.
Winning pitcher Meghan Kunzer (1-0) had two doubles.
For Salem, Krystal Finley homered, while Jill Barry, Morgan Cameron and Molly Colian had two hits each.
