Police accept applications for camp cadet program

Pennsylvania State Police are accepting applications for the 2003 Troop D Camp Cadet program Aug. 10-15 at Camp Lutherlyn in Butler County.
Butler, Beaver, Mercer and Lawrence county youths age 12 to 15 are eligible to attend.
The camp's goal is to provide youths with a positive attitude toward the law enforcement profession, and build self-esteem, self-confidence, self-discipline, self-respect and respect for others, said State Trooper Cheryl Michalski of the Butler County barracks.
Applications are available at the state police barracks in the aforementioned counties, or by calling the community services unit at the Butler County barracks at (724) 284-8210.
The application deadline is June 30. All accepted applicants will be notified by mail by July 15.
Although Camp Cadet is conducted under the auspices of the state police, the program receives no state funding, Michalski said.
Camp Cadet exists through broad-based community support, which allows youth to participate at no cost to them or their families beyond a $20 registration fee.
Tax-deductible contributions for Camp Cadet operations may be made at Camp Cadet, P.O. Box 1514, Butler, Pa. 16003.
