Man didn't drown
WARREN -- The 68-year-old Akron man whose body was pulled from Mosquito Lake this weekend did not drown, officials say.
Robert Smarr, who went fishing alone on the lake Saturday, most likely died of natural causes, said Rocky Greco, of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks and Recreation.
An autopsy was performed Sunday by the Trumbull County Coroner's Office. Preliminary reports show that Smarr may have had a seizure, officials said. No signs of foul play were found, Greco said.
Fishermen saw the empty 14-foot rented boat floating in the lake around 5 p.m. Saturday and then noticed Smarr's body in the water. The fishermen called 911.
Man points gun
NILES -- A 39-year-old Lafayette Street woman told police a man she does not know waved a gun at her.
Reports show the woman was at State Street and Robbins Avenue at 5:10 p.m. Friday when the man, in a dark Chevrolet Blazer, pointed a black handgun at her then drove off.
Two fires in Niles
NILES -- Firefighters battled two blazes within hours of each other.
Crews responded to a call of smoke from 805 Warren Ave. at 1:41 a.m. Sunday. No one was home at the time of the fire, reports show.
At 3:43 a.m. Sunday, firefighters were called to Vanex Tube Corp., 301 McKees Lane. The office was closed at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
The cause of both fires is still under investigation, and damage estimates were not available.
Township events
LIBERTY -- Liberty Township is planning two spring events.
A Mother's Day plant and flower sale will be from noon to 6 p.m. May 10 at the township administration building.
Proceeds benefit the Liberty High School baseball and softball programs.
"Moonlight Baseball" begins at 9:30 p.m. May 17 at Center Park.
Liberty safety forces will play members of the high school baseball and softball teams.
Planetarium program
KENT -- "Springtime in the Universe" will be presented by Kent State University Planetarium as its final free show of the season. The program will focus on the life rhythms of the universe, how it began and how it might end.
Viewing will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Room 108 in Smith Hall on campus.The show is not recommended for children under 6.

Spring-break day camp
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley Historical Society and Arms Family Museum of Local History are sponsoring a bicentennial spring-break camp from 2 to 4 p.m. April 22-24 at the museum, 648 Wick Ave.
Admission is free.
The camp is for children 6 to 12, with a 25-child limit each day. Activities include using hands-on artifacts to learn about architecture, early settlers and what school was like for kids 200 years ago. Kids will make Jacob's ladders, a tangram and homemade lemonade, and churn their own butter.
Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made by Friday.

Trumbull bus tour
NILES -- The Trumbull County Convention and Visitors Bureau is sponsoring a bus tour of county points of interest May 14.
The daylong tour, held in conjunction with National Tourism Week, is designed to show Trumbull County the way it is seen by out-of-town motorcoach groups. The cost is $28 per person and includes breakfast, lunch and attraction admissions.
Because of the large response to the event in the past, a random drawing of registrants will be done to determine final tour participants.
