Township has day for senior citizens

HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- Mahoning Township supervisors have set Local Government Day for senior citizens for noon April 16 at the community center.
The event, open to people 62 and older, will include a free lunch at 12:30. The supervisors, as well as representatives from Pennsylvania Consumers Water Co., will answer questions about the new waterlines or any township matter. Reservations are required and should be made by Friday by calling the township office at 724-667-8801.
At their meeting this week, supervisors reported the Pennsylvania-American Water Co. has started laying water lines in the U.S. Route 422 area, and work will start soon in North Edinburg. No deadline has been set yet for tap-in fees to be paid. Supervisors are waiting to learn when residents can apply for grants to help pay for the hookup.
At the request of Supervisor Gary Pezzuolo, supervisors will send a letter to Pennsylvania State Police asking them to monitor illegal parking off U.S. Route 224 by people illegally using the quarries in that area.
Supervisors also declined to have wood cut on township land behind the township building. They had received a letter from a consultant who offered to get bidders.
