Smidts honored at surprise event on anniversary

XNORTH LIMA -- A surprise celebration was held March 14 at the Elton Beard Log Cabin in Boardman Township Park in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Don Smidt, 9278 Woodworth Road, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Invitations for the festivity were issued by the couple's children, Kimberly Poma of Boardman, Sherri Eger of New Middletown and Kevin Smidt of Poland. There are nine grandchildren in the family.
St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Youngstown was the setting as the couple were united in marriage March 14, 1953. They are members of St. Andrew's and attend New Hope Community Church in Boardman.
Mrs. Smidt, the former Mary Gotshall, is a homemaker.
Her husband is a World War II veteran and was a partner in the Solar Oil Co. in Boardman prior to retiring in 1993.
