DETROIT -- Dee Brown hit his first career grand slam and Brent Mayne added a three-run shot for Kansas City. The 6-0 start is the best in Royals' history. At 0-7, Detroit became only the second team in major league history to start successive seasons with at least seven straight losses.
Yankees 2, Twins 1
NEW YORK -- Mike Mussina allowed no earned runs in eight innings to beat Minnesota for the 19th time in 21 career decisions. Jorge Posada and Raul Mondesi hit home runs. The Twins' Kyle Lohse (1-1) retired the first nine batters and didn't allow a hit out of the infield until Posada and Mondesi homered in the fifth.
Blue Jays 10, Red Sox 5
TORONTO -- Vernon Wells hit a grand slam as Toronto won its fifth straight. Mike Bordick doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Blue Jays. Manny Ramirez extended his career-high hitting streak to 22 games with a three-run homer for the Red Sox, who have lost three of four.
Devil Rays 10, Orioles 7
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Rocco Baldelli hit a tie-breaking RBI triple in the seventh inning as Tampa Bay came from behind for the second straight game. Tampa Bay trailed by four runs in the second inning and three in the fifth, but Baldelli's triple off Willis Roberts (0-1) gave the Devil Rays an 8-7 lead.
Athletics 13, Rangers 5
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Miguel Tejada hit one of Oakland's four homers as the Athletics beat Texas for the ninth straight time. Mark Mulder (1-0) earned his seventh consecutive win in a span of 11 starts, improving to 18-3 in his last 26 starts. Rangers slugger Rafael Palmeiro hit his 493rd homer, tying Lou Gehrig for 19th on the career list. Juan Gonzalez connected for his AL-leading fourth of the season.

SEATTLE -- Kevin Appier pitched six strong innings, and Scott Spiezio homered and drove in three runs as Anaheim snapped a four-game losing streak.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Pedro Feliz had a career-high four hits for San Francisco in the highest-scoring game at Pacific Bell Park. The first inning featured 11 runs. Yorvit Torrealba drove in three runs for the defending NL champions.

CHICAGO -- Mark Prior pitched his first shutout, striking out 12. Prior (2-0) scattered four hits and walked none in the second complete game of his career. He retired 16 straight batters at one point and allowed only one extra-base hit.
Dodgers 5, Diamondbacks 2
LOS ANGELES -- Darren Dreifort pitched six innings to earn his first victory in almost 22 months, and Shawn Green homered and drove in three runs as Los Angeles won for the third time in four games.
Phillies 16, Braves 2
PHILADELPHIA -- Greg Maddux was hit hard for the third straight start, and Pat Burrell and Jim Thome each homered twice and drove in five runs for Philadelphia. Maddux (0-3) is off to his worst start since 1989. He allowed 10 runs, seven earned, and 12 hits in 52/3 innings.

MIAMI -- Ivan Rodriguez homered and drove home the winning run with a two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning for Florida.
Astros 4, Reds 3
HOUSTON -- Jeff Kent hit a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. The Astros loaded the bases against Josias Manzanillo (0-2) on singles by Craig Biggio, Jose Vizcaino and Jeff Bagwell, before Kent's flyout.
Rockies 9, Cardinals 4
DENVER -- Larry Walker and Preston Wilson each drove in three runs for Colorado. Wilson and Bobby Estalella each hit two-run homers as Colorado opened a 9-0 lead after three innings.
