Woman arrested
BOARDMAN -- A Youngstown woman driving a car with expired plates was arrested on obstruction and drug charges after she gave township police a fake name and other information, police said.
Emma Pearl Alston, 37, of Richmond Avenue, was scheduled to appear in court today on charges of obstructing official business and drug abuse. She was arrested Friday after a traffic stop on Market Street, and police found several packets of suspected cocaine on her, reports show.
Alston, who also uses the names Emma Franklin and Michele Alston, also faces outstanding warrants charging tampering with records and taking the identity of another.
Accident injures 4
CAMPBELL -- Police are investigating an accident that sent four Campbell pupils to the hospital about 10:20 p.m. Saturday. The pupils -- ages 13, 16, 17 and 18 -- were struck by a car on Sanderson while walking home from a school dance.
The driver of the car, a 17-year-old Austintown girl, told police her windshield was fogged and she didn't see the pedestrians, who were walking along the road where there is no sidewalk.
Two of the pupils were taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center and two to Forum Health Northside Medical Center. They all had cuts, and one girl had a head injury.
Beer bust at school
BOARDMAN -- A Boardman High School sophomore was arrested in the football stadium's restroom during the football game Friday night and charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated.
Township police said the 16-year-old boy told officers he had consumed five 12-ounce cans of beer. He was arrested at about 8:30 p.m.
Shoplifting suspect
BOARDMAN -- Three female Wal-Mart employees were pushed over by a shoplifting suspect who had hidden about $220 in stolen items in the package of a box fan he bought, according to police.
Township police said Lamar Kelly Childs of West Ravenwood Avenue, Youngstown, faces a robbery charge in the episode, which occurred at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Doral Drive store.
The man is accused of hiding a portable CD player, a jacket and several DVDs in the box.
A theft alarm rang when Childs tried to leave the store, police reports show, and he shoved the employees when he discovered that police were being called.
