Charges follow crash
NEWTON FALLS -- A 38-year-old Newton Township man, whose car crashed into a home on Newton Drive, according to police, was to appear in municipal court today.
Police say Emanuel Loulis Jr. of Miller-Graber Road faces charges of DUI, failure to control and failing to have a driver's license.
Reports state Loulis lost control of his vehicle about 12:13 a.m. Sunday and crashed into the home of Mary and James Johnson, causing heavy damage.
Break-in and beating
NILES -- A South Botler Street man told police someone broke into his home this morning and beat him before ransacking his residence.
The 37-year-old man said two men entered about 4:30 a.m., hit him several times, then broke a TV, microwave, wall shelf, mirror, ceiling fan and more before leaving in a tan vehicle.
House burglary
NILES -- A Belmont Avenue man told police someone stole several guitars, a computer and tools.
According to reports, the rear door of the home had been kicked in.
The man told police the theft took place sometime between 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday.
The items taken were valued at more than $4,800.
Hubbard trustees
HUBBARD -- Township trustees will meet in special session Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the township administration building to interview applicants for positions in the police department.
Assault conviction
MERCER, Pa. -- Joseph Simeon, 21, of East Liberty Street, Girard, has been placed on one year's probation for misdemeanor conspiracy to commit simple assault.
Judge Thomas Dobson of Mercer County Common Pleas Court sentenced Simeon on Friday.
According to court documents, he struck and shoved a man while stealing his cell phone.
Simeon had two accomplices in the crime.
House blaze in Warren
WARREN -- Firefighters are investigating the cause of a blaze at 1375 Oak Street S.W.
The fire broke out inside the two-story frame house about 10:26 p.m. Sunday.
Fall Foliage Tour
MESOPOTAMIA -- Town Hall and the Mesopotamia Historical Society Museum and Meeting Hall will be open Saturday as part of the Trumbull County Fall Foliage Tour.
Heritage Day is scheduled here from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the town hall on state Route 534, just south of state Route 87.
The event features traditional Amish and Yankee crafts, demonstrations such as soap making, apple butter cooking, horse-shoeing and leather working, music and food.
Admission is $2; children 12 and under are free. Proceeds go toward preservation of the hall and the museum.
Animals to be blessed
AUSTINTOWN -- A blessing of animals will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 near the Rose Lake Building at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church at Kirk and South Raccoon Roads.
Leadership fund-raisers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Leadership Mahoning Valley Class of 2002 has pledged to raise $25,000 toward the Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties Easter Seals Head Start infants and toddlers play space and will help set up the playground equipment as its class project.
