Area tops magazine poll
YOUNGSTOWN -- A survey by SELF Magazine says the Youngstown-Warren area has the third-healthiest environment of 200 metropolitan areas in the country. The magazine notes that the Mahoning County Recycling Division "spreads the gospel of recycling." Timothy Berlekamp, executive director, said the recognition is a nice honor.
"We really have made great strides in our recycling programs over the past three years, and it's nice to have the importance of the work we do given attention on a national scale," he said.
The magazine also rates the healthiest, unhealthiest and happiest cities for women, cities with the highest and lowest life expectancy for women, cities with the best women's fitness and with the highest and lowest incidence of cancer deaths among women. There were no local cities in those categories.
