YSU Exposition targets fitness, wellness

There will be free health screenings and fitness activity demonstrations at the Fitness and Wellness Expo at YSU.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The second annual Fitness and Wellness Expo is Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Beeghly Physical Education Complex on the Youngstown State University campus. It is sponsored by the Department of Human Performance and Exercise Science in conjunction with the College of Health and Human Services at YSU.
The expo promotes fitness and wellness for more than 13,000 students, staff and faculty at the university, and is open to the general public, said Nicole Mullins, assistant professor in the Department of Human Performance and Exercise Science.
Various departments and offices on campus will participate and provide free cholesterol screenings, blood-pressure readings, body composition and other services.
Also included
Demonstrations will include a variety of fitness activities such as the YSU Dance Ensemble, various martial arts and YSU fitness classes, aerobics, cardio kickboxing and massotherapy. Also planned are carnival type games and some round robin tournaments, such as 3-on-3 basketball and 5-on-5 volleyball. There also will be entertainment and giveaways, and general information on health topics such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, arthritis and cancer will be available.
Organizations and businesses related to the promotion of fitness and healthy lifestyles are invited to participate in the expo by hosting a booth for a fee of $25, which includes parking, refreshments and a covered table with the participant's name displayed.
Businesses will be permitted to promote their services, but no products or services can be sold during the expo. The purpose is primarily education and disease prevention, Mullins said.
In addition, names of organizations and businesses who do not host a booth, but would like to make a donation of goods or services to be raffled, will have their name displayed at the expo entrances, Mullins said.
