Seven people were sentenced recently in Mercer County Common Pleas Court:
Elrico Jones, 28, address given as Mercer County Jail, received 18 months to four years in prison for smuggling cocaine into the jail. Officials found a small bag of cocaine on him while he was processed for commitment to the jail. He pleaded guilty to having contraband, a felony. Larry Lowe, Sr., 47, of Judson Street, Masury, sentenced Thursday to nine months to two years in prison for felony criminal trespassing. Court documents say that on Dec. 10, 2001, he broke two windows at Ponzurick's Auto Repair and broke a window on an overhead garage door at Laverty Auto Sales. Both businesses are on South Irvine Street, Sharon.Matthew Patrick, 18, of Twitmeyer Avenue, Hermitage, placed on two years' probation and ordered to make $998 restitution to Wal-Mart in Hermitage for misdemeanor theft. Court documents say he tried to return a computer with a stolen receipt.Marlon Scott, 24, of South Ozone Park, N.Y., sentenced to 19 days to one year in county jail and ordered to make $90 restitution for possession of drug paraphernalia. The complaint says when Scott was stopped for speeding along Interstate 80 in Findley Township March 28, 2001, police found in his car a digital scale, four boxes of sandwich bags and six boxes of fabric softener sheets. The items are commonly used to pack marijuana and to mask its odor, the complaint says.Dawn Vitello, 26, of Fruit Avenue, Farrell, placed on two years' probation for recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor, for striking her 5-year-old daughter in the face with a belt buckle. Police said the buckle left a mark.Ruth Welsh, 49, of Jackson Street, Grove City, placed on two years' probation for theft, a misdemeanor, for entering a residence at 407 E. Washington Blvd., Grove City, last January, and taking three bottles of liquor.Lester Young, 31, address given as State Correctional Institute at Camp Hill, Pa., sentenced to five months to two years, concurrent with the prison term he is serving, for obstructing administrative/law, a misdemeanor. The complaint says Young yelled and swore at police officers and clenched his fists in a fighting position while police were arresting another man at a Prindle Street, Sharon address.
