Civil War Encampment
CANFIELD -- A Civil War Encampment will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 and 13 at Loghurst, 3967 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Visitors will have an opportunity to walk through soldiers' camps, witness maneuvers, enjoy period games and music and have a pictures taken dressed as Confederate or Union soldiers.
Documents pertaining to the Civil War era may be viewed during tours of historic Loghurst, which is the property of Western Reserve Historical Society. Admission to Loghurst is $4 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. Those 5 and younger are admitted free. For information, call (330) 533-4330 or visit the Web site at www.wrhs.org.
Murder mystery dinner planned
ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. -- Mayhem Inc. will present an evening of suspenseful entertainment featuring a murder mystery dinner, "Killing Me Softly," at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at Into Antiques and Mezzanine Coffeehouse, state Route 488.
The evening will be completed with a karaoke night at Billy Bob's Country Bar where two finalists will vie for a recording contract with a major record label. But before the night is over, someone will be dead, a victim of harmonious homicide.
Prizes will be awarded throughout the evening and there will be a 50/50 raffle. Cost is $35. Reservations are required. Call (724) 654-8408.
Opening at museum
NEW YORK -- Youngstown native Roger Berkowitz will be on hand when "Masterpieces of European Painting from the Toledo Museum of Art" opens Oct. 29 at The Frick Collection. Berkowitz is director of Toledo Museum of Art, which was founded a century ago. The Toledo museum is lending the Frick museum 12 European paintings from the early Italian Renaissance period to late 19th-century France, including a work by Paul Cezanne. The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 5.
Seraphim concerts set
"We Remember Them," the first in a series of 2002-03 concerts to be presented by Seraphim, will take place at 4 p.m. Nov. 17 at Boardman United Methodist Church.
Featured will be the John Rutter Requiem, spirituals and the stirring "When Sudden Terror Tears Apart," an anthem dedicated to those lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy.
Future concerts include "Aspects of Love," featuring the Seraphim Chamber Singers, at 8 p.m. Feb. 15 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Poland, and "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue" at 4 p.m. May 16 and "Schubert Celebration!" at 4 p.m. May 18, both at the Boardman church.

Usher to portray Gaye
Grammy-winning rhythm-and-blues star Usher will appear on Dick Clark's nostalgic new NBC drama, "American Dreams," as Motown legend Marvin Gaye, circa 1964.
Usher will re-create Gaye's classic crossover tune "Can I Get a Witness?" on Clark's "American Bandstand."
Artists Michelle Branch (as Lesley Gore) and the Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter (as Jay of Jay and the Americans) have already shot episodes as musical stars. "Dreams" debuts tonight.
