Accident injures man
HOWLAND -- A Stow man was in critical condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center after a two-car accident Saturday afternoon at state Route 46 and Mines Road. David Stevens, 42, of Ellsworth Road, was southbound on Route 46 at 4 p.m. when he had a seizure behind the wheel and his vehicle sideswiped the right side of a car driven by Eleanor Pilati, 47, of Niles-Vienna Road, Vienna. She also was southbound, waiting for traffic to clear so she could make a left turn onto Mines Road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Pilati was not injured.
Water tank project
POLAND -- Village water service will not be affected during a $300,000 maintenance project on the 2-million gallon North Woodward water storage tank near Woodward Avenue and Youngstown-Poland Road, officials of Consumers Ohio Water Co. said.
Worldwide Industries of Butler, Pa., will paint the tank and install a new vent. Tanks are painted every 12 to 15 years for optimal performance. Officials expect workers to finish by the end of November.
Man dies after crash
POLAND -- A 69-year-old driver who died after a one-car crash Friday afternoon suffered a medical problem that made him unconscious and caused him to go off the road and hit a garage, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. Richard Yozwick of Whittier Court, Poland, was westbound on Dobbins Road just east of state Route 170 when the crash occurred at 3:15 p.m.
AARP driving program
HOWLAND -- AARP and township trustees will sponsor a driving refresher program for motorists older than 50 from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Oct. 9 at the township administration building. There is a $10 fee for the 55 Alive/Mature Driving Program, and class size is limited. Call the administration building at (330) 856-2340 to sign up.
Anti-abortion protest
WARREN -- Anti-abortion activists are planning their annual "Life Chain" from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 6 along Elm Road. Organizers say more than 1,200 participants from 50 local churches will stand along the road between Warren Plaza and Harding High School. They will pray and hold signs protesting abortion.
State ballot forum
WARREN -- The public libraries of Trumbull and Ashtabula counties will jointly host a forum on statewide ballot issues at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library. Invited guests include candidates for state House Districts 64, 65 and 99 and state Senate District 32. The event will be moderated by Barbara Ewing, a vice president of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber. Candidates will take written questions from the audience. Question cards will be available 30 minutes beforehand.
