Accident kills man
POLAND -- A 69-year-old Poland man is dead after a one-car traffic accident.
The State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and officers on duty Friday night at the Canfield post did not have the victim's name. The crash occurred about 3:20 p.m. Friday on Dobbins Road in the township.
According to a dispatcher for the highway patrol, the man was driving a Chrysler and had no passengers. No other information was available.
Cop's alcohol level
WARREN -- A Warren city police officer cited in a fatal traffic accident had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood when the crash occurred, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Test results show that officer Chuck List's blood alcohol level was 0.208 at the time of the crash; 0.10 is the legal limit, the OSHP said.
The crash occurred about 7:45 p.m. Sept. 13 on Tod Avenue after the 1994 Chevy Lumina List was driving went left of center, striking a 2000 Ford pickup truck head-on.
Harry Lamson, a rear seat passenger in List's vehicle, was killed. Two other passengers, List, and the driver of the truck were also injured.
Two face hearings
GIRARD -- Preliminary hearings are set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for two Youngstown men charged with robbing a Liberty woman at gunpoint.
Craig T. Robinson, 18, of Shaw Avenue, is charged with aggravated robbery and Derrick K. Owens, 18, of Seneca Street, with aggravated robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing official business.
Both appeared Friday before municipal Judge Michael A. Bernard. Robinson is being held in the Trumbull County Jail on $50,000 bond, while Owens is jailed on $57,500 bond.
Police are also searching for a third man accused of robbing the Roosevelt Avenue woman in her driveway Thursday night.
Group backs Krichbaum
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Police Ranking Officers Organization is endorsing the re-election of Judge R. Scott Krichbaum, a Republican, to his seat on the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court bench. The judge is being challenged by Democrat James Callen for the six-year position.
WRTA ridership rises
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ridership at WRTA continues to increase, with almost 5,000 passengers a day last month.
WRTA transported 117,917 riders in August -- an average 4,913 riders each day -- or a 3 percent increase over August 2001, reported Jim Ferraro, executive director.
Ferraro made his report during WRTA's regular board meeting Friday afternoon.
Riders in all age groups increased, with the most significant growth coming from students, Ferraro said. The number of student riders jumped 9 percent, adult riders increased by 4 percent and senior citizen riders grew 1 percent over the same time last year.
OCCHA dinner

Accused in robbery
AUSTINTOWN -- Township police have accused Ted Dodrill, 46, of 78 Omalia Drive, Mineral Ridge, of robbing the Country Fair store at 1143 Canfield-Niles Road on Sept. 18.
Police said Friday that a warrant for Dodrill was issued Thursday. He is in Trumbull County Jail on a charge filed by the Niles police in a robbery there.
Ex-manager charged
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- A former assistant manager of the Sheetz convenience store on state Route 258 in Springfield Township has been charged with stealing money from the store.
Pennsylvania State Police said Eric Carlantonio, 27, of Forestville, Pa., is accused of taking $3,277 from the store between July 26 and Sept. 18. A charge of theft was filed against him before District Justice Ruth French, and he was sent a summons to appear at a hearing Oct. 28.
