COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Investigative Unit, a division of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, has issued citations to Riverview Lounge on Water Street in Lowellville. The business was charged with allowing gambling -- a sports block pool and tip ticket dispensing machine.
The 356 Bar in Wellsville, Nemenz Village Shopper in Columbiana, and Roberts Country Store in Salem were charged with the sale of tobacco products to a child.
Purse-snatching
YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman who works in the 1300 block of Fifth Avenue was chased by a purse-snatcher who jumped the parking lot fence about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The woman told police that she tried to run into the building where she works but the man caught her and she fell to the ground as he grabbed her purse. The suspect yanked the purse from the 59-year-old victim and jumped back over the fence. The purse contained $30.
Found innocent
YOUNGSTOWN -- A municipal court jury found Kenneth L. Favors, 48, of West Delason Avenue innocent Wednesday of two counts of child enticement, the clerk's office said. Favors had been arrested in July. He was accused of luring 8-year-old twin boys to a convenience store on Market Street as they walked home from school June 4. Favors bought them candy and himself a beer, reports show. The boys said the man put a hand on each of their shoulders as he walked them across the street to the store. The twins were hysterical when they arrived home, their mother told police.
Car trailer stolen
CANFIELD -- A car trailer worth more than $5,000 that had been left at the Canfield Fairgrounds during a swap meet last weekend was stolen, the owner told the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department. The theft was reported Wednesday by Leonard Truck and Trailer in North Jackson.
Raccoon attacks dog
POLAND -- A village police officer killed a sick raccoon that had attacked a pet dog. The officer was called to the North Lima Road yard about 6:30 p.m. by the homeowner, who said the dog had been attacked, police reports show. The officer said he shot the animal twice when it started growling and hissing.
