MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -- The West Virginia University volleyball team (4-8) defeated Youngstown State Tuesday by scores of 30-32, 30-24, 30-24, 30-25.
Michelle Batton led the Penguins (7-8) with 11 kills and 13 digs. Annie Bushur had 14 kills, Angie Pasquinelli collected 47 sets, Cameran Drake had 18 digs and Nikole Kennedy had 15 kills .
Golfers are 10th
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Youngstown State men's golf team shot a three-round score of 922 (317-303-302) to place tenth at the Butler Fall Invitational.
Butler won the event with 871.
Dave Johnson fired a 225 (74-77-74) to place 24th.

Canfield winsMAC tennis title
CANFIELD -- The Canfield High School Red Team defeated Poland 4-1 Tuesday to capture the Metro Athletic Conference girls tennis championship.
Coached by Pat Pavlansky, the Cardinals are 14-2 overall and 9-0 in the league. Poland is 13-4, 6-2.
Mooney movessoccer games
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Cardinal Mooney girls soccer team has moved the remainder of its home matches from the school to Valley Sports in Struthers.
Southeast will play Mooney Monday at Valley Sports at 5 p.m. and Fitch will play Mooney on Oct. 2 at Valley Sports at 5 p.m.
WR Allen ledStruthers win
STRUTHERS -- Struthers High School junior receiver Dave Allen caught nine passes for 163 yards and a touchdown as the Wildcats defeated Salem 37-34 in a Metro Athletic Conference football game last Friday.
Allen has 19 catches this year for Struthers (2-3, 1-0).
Flag footballdeadline is near
YOUNGSTOWN -- The final day for registration for this weekend's Let-It-Fly 4-on-4 flag football tournament at St. Anne's Church and school is Thursday. Three divisions ages 12 to 17 and 18-years-old give youths who don't participate in local scholastic football programs the opportunity to play in an organized fashion. Sachire is partof title team
WACO, Texas -- The doubles team of Ryan Sachire of Canfield and Huntley Montgomery of Virginia won the Waco International Tennis Challenger recently.
Sachire-Montgomery went 5-0 in the prestigious tournament.
Earlier in the summer, Sachire-Montgomery won a futures tournament in Missouri and Sachire was a singles champion in a futures tournament in Illinois. Sachire, 24, is a graduate of Canfield High and the University of Notre Dame.
In the latest USTA world rankings, Sachire is No. 410 in singles and No. 248 in doubles.

Cincinnati QBcited for drinking
CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati quarterback Gino Guidugli was cited for underage drinking Tuesday.
The 19-year-old Guidugli had a beer when police responded to reports of a fight at a fraternity house near campus.
Coach Rick Minter said he was disappointed in Guidugli, but would have no further comment.
"As it is, I consider this to be a part of Gino's private life, and it will be handled in that manner," Minter said.
Guidugli led the Bearcats (1-2) to the verge of an upset of Ohio State on Saturday. He completed 26 of 52 passes for 324 yards and one touchdown, and led Cincinnati to the Ohio State 15-yard line in the closing minute.
PENNSYLVANIA
Straka makessurprise return
CANONSBURG, Pa. -- Martin Straka and his bad back, still healing from a summertime weightlifting accident, unexpectedly returned to practice with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday, six months since he last hit the ice.
Straka, trying to come back from a broken right tibia as well as the injured back, did not participate in many drills. He wore a teal jersey that indicated he should not be hit.
