NILES Father charged in injury to son, 6

The mother said she gave custody of the boy to his father in July.

NILES -- Nannette McMahan says her 6-year-old son will never forget what happened to him.
"He's just confused. He'll never get over this," McMahan said of her son, whom police say was beaten by his father.
Liberty police say Jerry E. Malcomson Jr., 28, of Naylor-Lloyd Road, Liberty, has admitted striking the special-needs boy with his hand.
Malcomson was charged Monday with child endangering, permitting child abuse and domestic violence. He is free on a $10,000 bond.
Police notified
Police said the boy showed up Monday at Washington Elementary School in Niles with injuries. School officials notified city police.
McMahan, of St. John Avenue, Niles, has had three children while living with Malcomson, including the boy, and a fourth with her husband, Sidney L. McMahan II.
The woman said that because her 6-year-old is bipolar and has attention deficit disorder he "was too much to handle" and she gave him to his father to live with July 16.
The boy experiences seizures and becomes violent, McMahan said, noting her son has been treated at Belmont Pines, a Liberty psychiatric care facility.
When McMahan, 29, was called to the school by police Monday, they told her to "brace yourself. He has been abused."
She described her son has having a bruise extending from his neck, three-quarters of the way down his back and along an arm.
"I can't believe someone would do that to a child, especially his father," McMahan said.
Boy was questioned
The mother said her son has told her he doesn't recall what happened and that he was struck with a hand -- nothing else.
McMahan said that Malcomson had not previously abused their three children. She never saw any lumps or bruises on the children, she said.
McMahan said her son initially didn't feel any pain when she first saw him, but he later began complaining of pain.
