Boardman plans leaf collection

BOARDMAN -- Leaf collection will begin Oct. 15 and run through Dec. 6, said township Road Superintendent Gary Dawson. Each street, including county and state roads, will receive a pickup once per week during the eight-week period. Pickups begin at 7 a.m.
Leaves must be in paper bags or cardboard boxes for pickup. The township will sell 30-gallon paper bags at $1 for three bags. They will be available beginning Monday at the road department, 8299 Market St., from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays.
They will also be available at the Georgeanna A. Parker Activity Center in Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Residents may also drop off leaves at the compost site, on Park Avenue east of Maple Avenue, between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Only grass clippings and wood waste are accepted.
Last year more than 1,800 tons of leaves were processed by the township, Dawson said. In the spring the processed leaves and wood mulch were available to residents for gardening needs.
