Security guard to face weapon charge

CANFIELD -- A security officer has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a felony.
William Triplett Sr., 42, of Boxwood Drive, Beloit, told police that his company requires him to carry his gun when he's traveling between job sites.
Police said they stopped Triplett Monday night for having no front license plate and a defective exhaust at Lisbon and Railroad streets. He said he had been working security at an East Midlothian Boulevard eatery in Youngstown.
Police said they asked Triplett if he was carrying a gun after they noticed he was wearing a security guard's uniform. Triplett said he had a gun and gave an officer his identification card and insurance information.
The officer returned to his cruiser and called for backup. Two other officers responded, and Triplett was ordered at gunpoint to get out of his car with his hands up.
Police found a loaded .38-caliber revolver, a pair of handcuffs, a pair of thumb cuffs, a canister of pepper spray and two speed loaders on Triplett's belt.
Police said Triplett later told them he knew better than to carry his gun at his side while driving. He added that he typically does not secure the gun in his car while driving, as required by state law.
