The resolutions set fees for sexually oriented businesses.

BOARDMAN -- Capping months of public discussion and community research, township trustees have adopted resolutions that restrict sexually oriented businesses that might seek to come into the area.
The resolutions say adult cabarets and massage establishments "require special supervision from public safety agencies in order to protect and preserve the health, safety and morals of the patrons of such businesses as well as the citizens of the Township."
The resolutions adopted Monday prohibit such businesses on lots that abut Market Street, South Avenue and U.S. Route 224.
What's included
"Adult cabarets" include commercial establishments that feature nudity, strippers, sexual entertainment or pornographic films.
Such businesses are also prohibited within 500 feet of residential lots, religious buildings, educational facilities, public parks and family entertainment businesses.
The resolution further restricts the businesses to industrial districts and commercial districts south of South Commons Place and 780 feet east of South Avenue.
Adult cabarets would be required to obtain a license for $450 for the first year and $250 per year to renew. Employees would be required to obtain licenses at $75 the first year and $50 to renew.
Massage establishments will be required to obtain a $375 license for a first year, and a $125 license renewal in subsequent years. Masseuse licenses will cost $150 and require $50 annual renewal fees. The resolutions go into effect in 30 days.

In other matters:
U Board members rescheduled the Oct. 14 meeting to Oct. 15. It will begin at 6 p.m. with a discussion of renovating a fire station at Shields Road and Lockwood Boulevard and possibly building a new station on South Avenue.
U Police Lt. Jerre Patterson was promoted to captain; Sgt. Albert Kakascik and Sgt. Donald Hawkins were promoted to the rank of lieutenant; and patrol officers Charles Hillman and Raymond Polombi were promoted to sergeant. Retiring are Capt. Richard Sell and Lt. John M. Rosensteel. Police Chief Jeffrey L. Patterson said that in two years, the department has replaced 12 of its 18 ranking officers.
U Several residents were honored with proclamations. Kenneth Wilson, retiring member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, was honored for his service since 1984, both on the board and in many civic leadership roles.
Steve Sprague, owner of Oreck Floor Care Center on Boardman-Canfield Road, was honored for extinguishing a fire behind the neighboring Cycle Sales on Aug. 25 and for summoning the fire department.
Chena Cross, 10, Dominique Brown, 9, and Marrissa Lawrence, 7, were honored for spotting a fire on Applecrest Court as they took garbage to a nearby trash container. The girls notified Marrissa's mother, who summoned the fire department, the proclamation says.
U The board authorized closing Maple Avenue between Southern Boulevard and South Avenue from Sept. 30 to Oct. 30. Traffic will be rerouted onto Beech Avenue and Walnut Street.
