CANFIELD -- Youngstown State won its Fall Invitational with a 5-0 record after defeating Clarion, 8-0, and 4-2, Edinboro, 9-0, and St. Francis (Pa.), 3-2, and 12-3, at McCune Park.
On Sunday, sophomore Erin Moore collected three hits while freshman Liz Holt went 2-for-3 in YSU's 12-3 victory over St. Francis. Senior Steph Hartman came out of the bullpen to pick up her second win of the tournament.
On Saturday, junior Amanda Berry and Holt each hit home runs against Clarion, then Berry slugged another round-tripper and Holt went 2-for-3 against Edinboro.
Senior Steph Hartman tossed a complete game victory while junior Lacey Reichert went 2-for-3 in YSU's win over St. Francis.
The Penguins will compete at the Kent State Fall Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
Volleyball
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- YSU's three-match win streak was snapped by Buffalo, 14-30, 28-30, 30-23, 18-30, at the Western New York-Holiday Inn Invitational. The Penguins (7-7) went 3-1 in the tourney.
Junior Colleen Royer led the Penguins with 14 kills and 21 digs while freshman setter Angie Pasquinelli recorded 31 assists, 14 digs and four block assists.
Senior Michele Batton, who was named to the all-tournament team, had seven kills and eight blocks.
The Penguins visit West Virginia, Tuesday.
Soccer
PITTSBURGH -- YSU dropped a 5-0 decision to Duquesne Saturday.
Duquesne scored all five goals in the first half. The Dukes outshot the Penguins 24-4 and outcornered YSU 9-1. Freshman keeper Caitlin Bestard recorded 11 saves.
YSU (1-6) visits Oakland (Mich.) Friday. Duquesne is 4-4.

Brumit receivesRolaids award
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former Youngstown State pitcher Matt Brumit of the Staten Island Yankees was named the Rolaids Relief Man of the NY-Penn League.
Brumit posted a 1-2 record and 2.21 ERA with 22 saves. He finished first in the league in saves and was also first in appearances with 33.
Brumit earned the Rolaids Relief Man award for August after going 1-0 with nine saves. He closed out each of the four Staten Island playoff games, notching four saves in the post-season.
Brumit set two club single-season records with 33 appearances and 22 saves.
Lakeview's Taylornamed by TAC
CORTLAND -- Megan Taylor of Lakeview High was named Trumbull Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week.
Taylor (5-foot-8), a junior setter, led the Bulldogs (11-3) to wins over Champion and Girard. She recorded her first triple double (11 assists, 11 digs and 11 points) against Champion, and added eight kills and eight assists against Girard.
At the Blue and White Classic, Taylor scored her second triple double (13 assists, 12 digs and 13 points) in the championship match against Poland. Taylor joined her teammates, senior Heidi Kracker and junior Whitney Keyser, on the Blue and White Classic All Tournament Team.

MERCER, Pa. -- The "Chuck Marsh Memorial" was held Saturday night at Mercer Raceway Park.
Celebrating in the Moore's Auto Body victory lane were Shane Stewart (All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars), Gary Smoker (New Castle School of Trades Sportsman Modifieds) and Gary Miller, Jr. (Butterfield's Pub Stock Cars).

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Former NFL linebacker Wayne Simmons, who died in a one-car accident, had a blood alcohol level of .19 percent when he was killed Aug. 23 on Interstate 70 near Independence. Missouri's legal limit is .08 percent.
