56 counties exhaustdeer allocations
HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Game Commission reports that, based on a survey of county treasurers, 56 counties have exhausted their antlerless deer license allocations. The survey showed 62,715 antlerless deer licenses remain.
In addition there are 5 counties with fewer than 2,000 antlerless licenses remaining. Those counties with fewer than 2,000 licenses remaining are: Armstrong (510); Beaver (1,000); Lehigh (465); Philadelphia (473); and York (1,000). The remaining counties with available antlerless licenses are: Allegheny (21,000); Bucks (11,500); Chester (6,000); Delaware (4,939); Montgomery (7,800); and Washington (8,028).
Fish for free Sept. 28
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has designated Sept. 28 as a "Fish For Free Day" in recognition of National Hunting and Fishing Day.
From 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 28, no fishing license is needed by anybody to fish on Pennsylvania's waterways.
For beginning anglers, the PFBC and its partners have established a number of sites around the state where fishing tackle can be borrowed free of charge. A listing of tackle loaner sites is available on the special Fish For Free Day section of the Commission's web site at www.fish.state.pa.us.
All other fishing regulations, including size and creel limits, apply as usual.
Nearly 32,000 hunters apply for elk license
HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania Game Commission reported that hunters submitted 31,789 applications for a public drawing to award 70 licenses for the 2002 elk hunt. As part of the 2002 Elk Expo, the public drawing will take place at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Camp Owner Association Grounds on Airport Road, near the St. Marys Municipal Airport, Elk County.
Last year, 50,697 hunters submitted an application for the public drawing to award 30 licenses as part of the state's first elk hunt in seven decades.

Author, expert anglerset at local fly shop
Oliver Edwards will be appearing at Books and Hooks Flyfishing Shop in Girard Monday from 1 to 7 p.m.
Edwards, of England, is one of Britain's best-known flytiers and has an international reputation for his realistically tied flies. He is an accomplished trout fisherman and has represented England in the World Flyfishing Championships.
Edwards is most familiar to U.S. flytiers via his book, "Oliver Edwards' Flytiers Masterclass - a Step-by-Step Guide to Tying 20 Essential Patterns." He has regular columns in Trout and Salmon, Salmon Trout & amp; Seatrout and Flyfishing & amp; Flytying magazines and has produced several videos.
