HONORS
Chief fire officer
Assistant Chief Gary D. Jordan of Niceville, Fla., formerly of Sebring, attained designation as a chief fire officer by the Commission on Chief Fire Officer Designation.
Jordan received the designation at the recent Fire Rescue International, the annual conference of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, in Kansas City, Mo.
Jordan is one of the first 100 people to receive the professional award. It requires detailed documentation of training, education, community and professional performance, and review by a panel of designees.
Jordan is assistant chief of support services and fire marshal for the North Bay Fire District in Niceville. He also serves as the fire district's public information officer, safety officer and emergency management coordinator. A retired Air Force officer, he has a master's degree in executive development for public service and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program. He was selected as the Florida Fire Marshal of the Year for 2000.
Jordan is a 1970 graduate of Sebring McKinley High School and an Eagle Scout. He is the son of Robert L. and Dorothy Jordan of Sebring and is married to the former Darlene Pagnucco of Alliance. The Jordans have two sons, Kristopher and Jason.
LAWYERS
Kline earns degree
Donald Larry Kline II, formerly of Poland, has earned his juris doctorate degree from Thomas Cooley School in Lansing, Mich.
Kline, a son of Dr. D. Larry and Jeannette Kline of Liberty, lives in Sagamore Hills and is employed by Ohio Valley Coal Co. in Pepper Pike. He took the Ohio State Bar examination in July.
Kline is a 1995 graduate of Poland Seminary High School and earned his bachelor's degree in 1999 from Ohio University, where he majored in pre-law.
SCOUTS
Smith gets Eagle award
Judson Marshall Smith, a son of Grace and Mark Smith of Salem, received the Eagle Scout award, Boy Scouting's highest honor, at a ceremony at Camp McKinley in Lisbon.
Smith, 18, is a member of Scout Troop 3, which is sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Salem. His Eagle service project involved constructing and installing bat nursery boxes in three Salem city parks. The project took two months and 133 hours to complete. It involved the work of 13 Scouts, friends and adults.
His Scouting honors and activities include Junior Leader Training, Order of the Arrow-Ordeal member, third-year Pipestone, Mile Swim Award, God and Church Award, senior patrol leader, scribe, quartermaster, and junior assistant Scoutmaster.
Smith, who has 26 merit badges, earned the Scout 50 Miler Award during a 90-mile trek across the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, which culminated in a climb to the summit of Mount Whitney. He currently serves as Troop 3's assistant Scoutmaster.
A senior at Salem Senior High School, he is active in symphonic band and jazz band. He received a varsity letter in cross country and participated on the track team.
