EverGreen plays hostto harvest celebration
VILLA MARIA, Pa. -- EverGreen and Land Management plan to celebrate the harvest Oct. 5. Visitors are welcome to come for all or part of the day.
Frank Romeo will begin speaking at 10 a.m. about "Nature's Gifts and the Harvest," followed by a trail walk led by a naturalist from Mill Creek Park.
Guests should bring a brown-bag lunch and can enjoy hot apple cider and other beverages and snacks. Hay rides will be every hour from 1 to 4 p.m. Staff will be available for the purchase of pumpkins and to help carve or paint them. Crafts, organic produce, straw bales and corn stalks will be for sale. Guests also are welcome to visit the animals and enjoy the farm.

Firewood available
BOARDMAN -- Mill Creek MetroParks' wood storage lot on West Golf Drive, just south of Stitt Pavilion, will be open Saturday and Oct. 5 for people who want firewood.
There is no fee for the firewood, but individuals must cut and load their own wood. The lot will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Only 15 vehicles will be allowed in the storage lot at any one time. Trucks larger than pickup size and trailers attached to trucks are not allowed. Automobiles with trailers under 8 feet are allowed, however. For more information, call (330) 702-3000.
Touch-screen voting
NORTH LIMA -- A demonstration of the new touch-screen voting system will take place at this month's Beaver Township Crime Watch meeting, which will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the activity room at Shepherd of Valley, 9111 Sharrott Road.
Democratic rally
SALEM -- Charleta Tavares, Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, will be the guest at a rally hosted by the Salem Democratic Women. The public event, which also will include other state and local candidates, is set for 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Guilford Lake Ruritan Park on state Route 172 at Guilford Lake.
