Elite runners will vie
YOUNGSTOWN -- Boston Marathon great Bill Rodgers and other elite runners are expected to compete in the 28th annual 10K Peace Race Oct. 6. Presented by Butler Wick & amp; Co. to benefit Tod Children's Hospital, the race, beginning at 10:15 a.m., and the 2-mile fun run, beginning at 9:30 a.m., will start at Mill Creek Park and end at the Youngstown YMCA. Applications are available at Second Sole Shoes on U.S. Route 224, the downtown YMCA and other health clubs. Runners may enter on race day at the YMCA.
Creating monsters
KINSMAN -- The public library will be crawling with monstrous creatures Oct. 5 when children 5 to 12 create ghoulish Monster Jug Heads. Kids can pick the color of the head the plan to create when they register. Wear paint- and glue-friendly clothes. Call the library at (330) 876-2461.

UPMC Horizon Sports Medicine Center is offering a special Saturday Injury Clinic through the end of the football season to treat local athletes with musculoskeletal injuries.
