ICE HOCKEY Mahoning Valley Phantom Rockets in final home exhibition Sunday

It is the final exhibition home contest for the Mahoning Valley team.
BOARDMAN -- Three area players will be in the lineup when the Mahoning Valley Phantom Rockets play their final home exhibition game Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the Ice Zone on McClurg Road.
Boardman residents Dustin Hawthorne, Tim Cerimele and Tyler Miller will skate for the Rockets when they take on the Toledo Storm, the defending champions of the Continental Elite Hockey League. Admission is free.
The 10-team league is beginning its second season at the Junior A level, which is designed to develop players for NCAA Division I or professional minor leagues. Teams are in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.
Players must be ages 18-22 and either attend school or work. Players from outside the Mahoning Valley are being placed with local families.
Hawthorne, 19, played for Beaver High School and the Beaver County Badgers. The right wing attends Youngstown State University, studying business administration.
Cerimele, 18, is a forward who graduated in June from Boardman High. Last winter, he was The Vindicator's high school club player of the year. A forward, Cerimele also played for the Lawrence County Lightning.
Miller, 18, is a senior at Poland High and has played forward for Poland's club team and the Beaver County Badgers.

Ten of the Rockets hail from Pennsylvania: Charlie Boivin, 20, who played for Blackhawk High and the Beaver County Badgers; forward Justin Cassel, 18, of Hershey who played for the Hershey Junior Bears; center Todd Conocchia, 20, of Pittsburgh who played for the Pittsburgh Junior B Penguins; defenseman Matt Cook, 20, of Freedom who played for the Beaver County Badgers; defenseman Daniel Wiefling, 20, of Butler who played for the Pittsburgh Junior C Penguins; goalie Nick Signet, Sewickley, who played for the Pittsburgh Amateur Penguins; goalie Justin Carland, 19, of Industry who played for the Beaver County Badgers; defenseman Adam Pacek, 18, of Natrona Heights who played for the Pittsburgh Viper Stars midget team; forward Paul Pindrah, 21, of Mars who played for Indiana University of Pennsylvania; and forward Jarred Frey, 18, of Hershey who played for the Central Penn Panthers Junior B team.
Three players hail from Calgary, Alberta, who played for the Calgary Royals: forward Blernan Mugala, 20; right wing Chad Blumes, 19; and center Blooks Harvey, 20.
The other Rockets are: forward Micheal Shaw, 19, of Bay City, Mich., who played for the Jackson Prowlers; defenseman Jay St. John, 19, of Flint, Mich., who played for the Jackson Prowlers; forward Eric Madden, 18, of Chicago who played for Loyola Academy; and defenseman Eric Mayhew, 19, of Littleton, Col., who played for the Downriver Lumberjax of the CEHL.
Bob Hawthorne coaches the Rockets, who open the regular season on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. against Traverse City.
