Sharpsville school board looks to replace departing member
SHARPSVILLE, Pa. -- The school board is looking for a new member to replace Robert Timmerman, who is moving from the district to take a job in Florida.
He submitted his resignation last month, but the board didn't accept it.
The board did accept it Tuesday, giving the district 30 days under Pennsylvania law to find a successor.
It the board fails to name a replacement, the matter falls to Mercer County Common Pleas Court. The board could ask the court to intervene if it can't agree on a candidate, or district residents could petition the court to make an appointment .
Timmerman's term expires at the end of 2003.
Superintendent Derry Stufft said anyone interested in filling the post should submit a letter of interest by 4 p.m. Oct. 3 to Jamie Roberts, board secretary, at 701 Pierce Ave., Sharpsville 16150.
The board will have a special meeting Oct. 9 to interview candidates and make a selection, Stufft said, adding that the starting time of that meeting will be determined by the number of candidates for the job.
Timmerman, a former president of the board, was serving as assistant treasurer. The board named member Charles Rice to fill that post immediately.
