The city zoning appeals board handled these issues Tuesday:
Approved four variances for the city school board for an addition at Chaney High School on South Hazelwood Ave. The variances reduce one required side setback from 50 feet to 8 feet for parking; reduces another required side setback from 50 feet to 5 feet for parking; reduces the required front setback from 100 feet to 20 for parking; and reduces the required rear setback from 50 feet to 5 feet.
Deferred two variances for the city school board to build the new East Middle/High School on Bryn Mawr. The zoning board wanted the site plan reworked. The variances are to allow parking in the required front setback and to reduce the required front setback from 100 feet to 8 feet.
Deferred four variances for Ludduico Contofanti to build a storage facility and office at South and Dorothy avenues. The appeals board wanted more detailed landscaping plans. The variances would be to reduce the required rear yard setback from 25 feet to 8 feet; give permission to use two residentially zoned lots for parking; reduce the required side setback from 8 feet to 1 foot for parking; and reduce the required rear yard setback from 25 feet to 1 foot for parking.
The city planning board handled this item Tuesday:
Recommended that city council expand the boundaries for the North Side Historic District by 34 acres. The boundaries would expand to Florencedale Avenue and Bryson Street to the west, Wick Avenue on the east, Madison Avenue to the South and Broadway Street to the north. The existing district is bounded by Fifth Avenue, Elm Street, Park Avenue and Broadway. A second North Side historic district runs the length of 5th Avenue from Wick Park to Gypsy Lane and includes properties fronting Crandall Park on Redondo Road and Tod Lane. Some residents objected to another layer of government concerning their properties. Demolition or changes to properties in the area are reviewed by the Historic District commission.
