Update on bridge work
BERLIN CENTER -- Motorists can expect to wait an additional six to seven weeks for the new U.S. Route 224 (Akron-Canfield Road) bridge over Berlin Reservoir to open, at which point they'll be relieved of an official 15.5-mile detour around the reservoir.
The $2.2 million bridge replacement project, being performed by National Engineering Contracting Co. of Strongsville, is on schedule and expected to be completed Nov. 6, but the bridge could open a few days earlier, the Ohio Department of Transportation says.
The previous bridge closed to traffic Feb. 4. The detour uses state Route 534, Mahoning Avenue and state Route 225.
