STRUTHERS -- Police are seeking information from neighbors of a Broad Street woman who found an arrow lodged in the fender of a car in her driveway Monday afternoon.
Police reports say the car was parked in the 200 block of Broad Street around 4:50 p.m. Twenty minutes later, the woman discovered the arrow.
Car pelted with rocks
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 13-year-old East Middle School pupil is being held at the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center after being accused of throwing rocks at a car traveling on the city's South Side, city police reports show.
Police arrested the boy after a 25-year-old woman reported that he threw the rocks, just missing her passenger window, around 7 p.m. Tuesday as she drove on Glenwood Avenue near Boston Avenue. The woman's 1-year-old baby was in the car at the time.
Woman reports assault
YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman told city police that she was too afraid of her assailant to initially report a beating that fractured her nose in June. But the 44-year-old North Side woman reported to city police Tuesday that the 35-year-old East Side man often abuses her when he is drunk.
She said he came to her home around 5 a.m. one June morning and awoke her, punched her, kicked her and threw her onto a couch. She said he urinated on her and forced her to go outside naked.
Reports do not indicate the nature of their relationship. Police advised her to call the city prosecutor today.
Men found hiding
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police had to force their way into an East Side home after receiving calls that a man was being held there at gunpoint.
Officers received no answer at the Plazaview Court apartment around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. Upon entering, they found one man hiding in a bedroom closet under clothing and another man hiding under a pile of clothes in another bedroom, police reports show.
The second man was arrested for violating a protection order. He was prohibited from being at the apartment at the request of a 55-year-old woman who lives there. She was hospitalized and not at home.
The first man, the woman's son, told officers a man had threatened him with a gun over drug money and fled before police arrived. He said he had been afraid to open the door.
Apartment security said they had seen the other man run from the area. The son said he did not want to file a report.
Domestic violence
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 15-year-old boy assaulted his 13-year-old sister, angry that the girl had accused their brother of molesting her, police said.
The boy, who punched the girl about five times in their West Side foster home, told city police that he was angry that the other boy, 14, was in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center. He said he wanted to be there with him because they had been separated for four years and he didn't want to be separated again.
The 15-year-old boy was taken to the Juvenile Justice Center on a domestic violence charge, police reports show. The foster mother said he and the girl are both mentally impaired.
Dog attacks child
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 7-year-old boy who was attacked by a dog on the East Side received more than 30 stitches on his right buttock and leg, city police reports show.
The South Garland Avenue first-grader was riding a scooter on the sidewalk in his neighborhood when the loose mixed-breed dog attacked him around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The dog's owner told police the animal was current on shots but was unsure if the dog is licensed.
The child was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Grant for police
LIBERTY -- U.S. Justice Department's Office of Community Policing Services has awarded a $125,000 grant to the township to hire a patrol officer. The grant will be used to reimburse the township for the salary and benefits of an officer for three years.
