YOUNGSTOWN Police probe three robberies

Three men broke into an elderly couple's apartment and robbed them.
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police are investigating three armed robberies that took place in the city within a 24-hour time period.
About 10:10 p.m. Monday, a 20-year-old Boardman man was robbed of his wristwatch on the South Side when a man he knows only as "Eddie" pointed a handgun at him.
He said he was walking on South Avenue near Dorothy Avenue when the robber pulled up next to him in a car, exited, threatened him and demanded the watch, police reports show.
Police found a car, which matched the description the Boardman man gave, in front of a Dorothy Avenue home. A handgun was lying on the floor.
The car had been stolen from Youngstown on Sept. 11. The woman who lives at the Dorothy Avenue address said "Eddie" had been at the home just before the robbery.
Other robberies
At 9:45 p.m. Monday, four males robbed a 45-year-old pizza delivery man of $38.50 on the South Side.
The Pastino's Pizza worker, of Hubbard, told police he was making a delivery to a Parkview Avenue home. A man wearing a bandana over his face answered the door and left, saying he had to get money for the pizza. He returned, pointing a shotgun from a window, police reports show.
Three other males wearing bandannas had approached the delivery man from outside; one pointed a shotgun and demanded money, taking the cash from his pockets. They then ran off. The owner of the Parkview Avenue home told police that no one lives there.
At about 10 p.m. Sunday, a North Side couple in their 70s was robbed at knife-point of a telephone, lamp, video tapes and bed sheets when three masked men in their late teens or early 20s broke into the couple's Bryson Street apartment through an unlocked window.
One of the robbers held a knife to the couple while the other two stole the items, according to police reports. They carried about 200 video tapes with the bed sheets.
The couple said they waited until about 1 p.m. Monday to report the crime because they had no other telephone.
