YOUNGSTOWN Chefs offer recipes at Edible Art event



Chapter's Caf & eacute;'s chicken Romano was judged the top recipe at AHA's Edible Art Collection.
YOUNGSTOWN -- About 350 patrons attended the American Heart Association's 13th annual Edible Art Collection at the Butler Institute of American Art, where area chefs offered "heart-healthy" recipes that were created or modified to be lower in fat, cholesterol and sodium.
The six area restaurants that participated Sunday, and their dishes, were: Abruzzi's Cafe 422, chicken primavera over fettuccine with marinara sauce and Abruzzi bread; the Avalon Inn and Resort, stuffed roulade of beef and julienne vegetables; Austinwoods, two-layer double chocolate pudding and pumpkin cheesecake; Chapter's Caf & eacute; at the Poland Library, chicken Romano; PJ Snappers, smoked salmon with Caesar wraps and grilled chicken quesadillas; Winner Institute of Arts and Science, carrot and ginger soup with cilantro foam and California rolls.
The Mocha House provided a selection of gourmet coffees.
Winners
Judges and the general public voted for favorite exhibits. Chapter's Caf & eacute; received the first-place award and the People's Choice Award; Austinwoods, second place; and the Winner Institute of Arts and Sciences, third place.
During the event, the chefs shared information and cooking techniques with the patrons, many of whom were survivors of cardiovascular disease or were caring for family members with cardiovascular disease.
