LEETONIA -- After only a few weeks of use, the Leetonia Community Public Library's notebook projector is a big hit.
The machine can display not only pages of books, but programs from television, the Internet or video equipment onto a screen or wall to make group viewing easier, said Carol Davis, library director.
To display images from computers or video equipment, the notebook projector is linked directly to those devices, she said.
Davis said the library staff has been using the new device for about two months, and it was to be in use today during children's programs. She said the staff planned to project a program on shapes and colors from the Internet.
"The kids think it's great," Davis said. "They say it's like being at the theater."
The 'magic wall'
Davis said the notebook projector can be used with a standard video screen, but at the library the images are displayed on a wall.
That particular wall is also a magnet board that holds items for display during meetings or children's programs.
"We call it our magic wall," she said.
For the library's youngest patrons, the large images from the notebook projector add an extra element of mystery to the magic wall, she said.
To demonstrate the notebook projector for the library board, Davis recently linked it to a television before a recent board meeting.
Then as board members arrived for the meeting, a CNN news broadcast appeared on the wall in big-screen fashion.
Davis said the library bought the notebook through a combination of its own funds and a donation from a local teacher. The teacher had seen the device used elsewhere and thought it would be a good tool for the library.
