Board sets daily salary for acting schools chief

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Wilmington Area School District Board of Education has set the daily salary for the acting superintendent of the district.
C. Joyce Nicksick will serve in that capacity at $325 per day. Nicksick served as supervisor of curriculum and instruction before the resignation of Superintendent Michael Hink, who has accepted the superintendent's job at the Neshannock Area School District.
In other business at the board's meeting Monday, several people asked the board to consider making girls softball a school-sponsored sport.
One player, Autumn Long, 16, of Volant said it is the only sport not recognized by the district.
William Hogue of Pulaski, who has coached the girls 18-and-under fast-pitch league the past six seasons, said the Wilmington girls are at a disadvantage. Without a school-sponsored team, players are not eligible for college scholarships.
Board President Richard Houllette said the board will discuss the issue further.
