WARREN -- A 13-year veteran of the city police department is in serious but stable condition at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland after a car crash that left one man dead.
Charles List, 34, of state Route 5, Kinsman, has a broken femur and internal injuries, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Harry E. Lamson Jr., 50, of Larchmont N.E., Warren, a back-seat passenger in List's vehicle, died shortly after the crash, officials said.
The crash is under investigation, a patrol spokeswoman noted.
What happened
According to reports, List was driving east on Tod Avenue around 7:45 p.m. Friday when he went left of center and struck a pickup truck driven by Doug Reinard, 47, of McCleary-Jacoby Road, Bazetta.
Reinard, who was wearing a seat belt, was treated at a local hospital, OSHP officials said.
Neither List nor his three passengers were wearing seat belts, reports stated. List was not on duty.
Karrisa Walsh, 31, of Garfield Street, Niles, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, and Pamela S. Profato, 36, of George Street, in the back seat, were both taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Walsh, who works as a receptionist at the Trumbull County Sheriff's Department, is in stable condition this morning at Metro Health in Cleveland, and Profato is in serious condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
"This is very, very sad," said Police Chief John Mandopoulos. "Chuck is probably one of the best drug officers we have ever had. I know this is going to be very difficult for him because he and Harry were best friends."
