Driver will face numerous charges after chase

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A city man faces multiple charges after being accused of leading police on a 3.2-mile chase on the city's west side over the weekend.
Authorities said they found several shotguns, spent shells and other items in the sport utility vehicle driven by Jauan Marcus Searcy, 20, of West Washington Street.
Searcy was free this morning after posting $20,000 bond. Among the charges he faces are aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, possessing prohibited offensive weapons, criminal mischief, institutional vandalism, resisting arrest, desecration of venerated objects, driving under the influence, fleeing or attempting to elude police, driving without a license, failing to stop at stop signs, driving on the wrong side of the road and reckless driving.
Police said they spotted a SUV traveling east on Grant Street at 3:11 a.m. Saturday, and when they tried to pull it over, it kept going.
Police chased the SUV along several streets before it went into the Greenwood Cemetery, where it knocked over two headstones. Police said they also spotted items being thrown out of the windows during the chase.
What happened next
The SUV eventually made it to Halco Drive, where it went through several back yards, and then Searcy jumped out and started to run, police said. A second man in the passenger seat also ran, but police could not catch him.
Police said Searcy ran to a home on Halco Drive and attempted to close the door as a police officer put his arm inside. The officer forced his way in the house and struggled with Searcy as three adult women tried to pull the officer off Searcy, police said.
Police said they found brass knuckles in his back pocket and shotguns in the SUV. They also found shotguns in the area where they saw Searcy and his passenger throwing items out of the vehicle, police said.
Searcy was arraigned before District Justice James Reed.
