Ambulance overturns, injuring 2 workers, patient

AUSTINTOWN -- Two ambulance workers and a patient they were transporting were injured this morning when the patient interfered with the driver on state Route 11, causing the vehicle to flip.
Driver Mark S. Dangelo, 36, of Youngstown and passenger James V. Davis, 28, of Austintown both suffered minor injuries when the Lane LifeTrans ambulance crashed, Ohio State Highway Patrol personnel said.
Patient John J. Pakalnis, 33, of Canfield also suffered minor injuries.
Pakalnis was cited by the OSHP with interfering with the driver resulting in a crash.
OSHP personnel said Dangelo was driving north when Pakalnis interfered, causing the ambulance to travel off the right side of the road, hit a concrete culvert and overturn.
Pakalnis had been picked up by the ambulance crew from the Canfield police station, but OSHP personnel did not know where he was being taken.
