Pavlik wins decision
LAS VEGAS -- Professional boxer Kelly Pavlik of Youngstown extended his undefeated record to 15-0 Saturday night, by registering a unanimous decision over Edson Madrid of Phoenix, Ariz., in a welterweight bout at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
Pavlik, who is sponsored by Top Rank and trains at the Southside Boxing Club under Jack Loew, knocked down Madrid (6-4-1) in the first and second rounds, and then got the decision by 60-51, 60-51 and 60-52.
Pavlik's fight was part of the undercard of the Oscar de la Hoya-Fernando Vargas world super welterweight championship bout on Pay-for-view.

All Star Sprintsat Mercer Raceway
MERCER, Pa. -- Action returns to Mercer Raceway on Sept. 21 as the All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars return for the first time in over two years for Chuck Marsh Memorial.
The night has been designated as Fan Appreciation Night with $15 adult and $33 Family Pass admission prices.
Also on the card will be the New Castle School of Trades Sportsman Modifieds and the Butterfield's Pub Stock Cars.

Brian Palmer, the Mineral Ridge High football team's kicker, was misidentified in Saturday's edition. Palmer kicked a 32-yard field goal and added three extra-point kicks for the Rams, who defeated McDonald 24-7 Friday.
Also, Howland boys soccer goalie Zachary Roscoe was incorrectly identified as Zachary Airhart.

Belle arrested on DUI, other charges
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Former All-Star outfielder Albert Belle is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday after being arrested on DUI and other charges last Saturday night, police said.
Belle, 36, was pulled over after a police officer said he saw a 2003 Rolls Royce Bentley weaving on a north Scottsdale street and traveling 10 mph over the posted 45 mph speed limit.
Police said Belle told an officer that he drank four beers at a Phoenix bar followed by three margaritas at a Scottsdale restaurant before getting behind the wheel.
A breathalyzer test showed Belle had a 0.12 blood-alcohol level, above Arizona's DUI level of 0.08, police said.
Police said Belle also was cited for no proof of insurance, speeding and making an unsafe lane change.

* WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- Second-seeded Lisa Raymond advanced to the final of the Big Island Championships on Saturday, beating Belgium's Els Callens 6-2, 7-5.
Raymond, the 29-year-old American seeking her fourth WTA Tour title in her 10th career final, will face Zimbabwe's Cara Black in the title match at Hilton Waikoloa Village.
Black led Spain's Gala Leon Garcia 6-1, 2-1 when Leon Garcia retired because of tendinitis in her left shoulder.
* COSTA DO SAUIPE, Brazil -- Gustavo Kuerten beat Paraguay's Ramon Delgado 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3 Saturday to advance to the final of the Brazil Open.
Kuerten, a former world No. 1, overcame the 104-degree heat to advance to the finals against Argentina's Guillermo Coria, a 7-5, 6-2 winner over American Cecil Mamitt.
Later, Kuerten and partner Andre Sa defeated Gaston Etlis and Luis Lobo of Argentina in the doubles semifinals 7-6 (4), 6-1. They play Scott Humphries of Tampa, Fla., and Mark Merklein of the Bahamas in today's final.
* TASHKENT, Uzbekistan -- Yevgeny Kafelnikov fought off an injured finger and qualifier Vladimir Voltchkov to win the $550,000 President's Cup 7-6 (6), 7-5 on Saturday.

* BUCHAREST, Romania -- Fifth-seeded Jose Acasuso beat top-seeded Andrei Pavel 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1 Saturday to advance to the final of the Romania Open.
In the other semifinal, unseeded David Ferrer of Spain beat seventh-seeded David Sanchez 6-1, 6-2.
* SHANGHAI, China -- Anna Kournikova rallied from a big second-set deficit to defeat Ai Sugiyama 6-4, 7-5 on Saturday and reach the final of the Shanghai Open.
Kournikova, who has never won a singles title on the WTA Tour, reached her fourth-ever finals and first in two years. She will face top seed Anna Smashnova of Israel today.
Smashnova breezed by seventh-seeded Angelique Widjaja 6-1, 6-1.
Kournikova returned to the court a few hours later with doubles partner Janet Lee and clinched another finals berth with a second come-from-behind victory.
Kournikova and Lee, the No. 2 seeds, bounced back to close out a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win. They will face Sugiyama and Rika Fujiwara, the top-seeded pair, in the final today.
