PREP VOLLEYBALL Hubbard captures Worthington title



Rayen went 2-1 in City Series matches in Canton.
WORTHINGTON -- Katy Jo Mroski was named the Most Valuable Player and teammate Monika Rajkovicova made the all-tournament team as the Hubbard High School volleyball team stretched its record to 10-0 by winning the Worthington Kilbourne Invitational Saturday.
Hubbard defeated Reynoldsburg (7-3) 15-6, 15-2; defeated Watkins Memorial (7-2) 15-8, 15-6; and beat Louisville, Ky. Catholic (10-1) for the title, 15-8, 15-4.
Mroski had 42 kills, 23 digs, 10 blocks and 12 aces, while Rajkovicova collected 36 kills, 27 digs, 15 blocks and three aces for the Eagles (10-0), who are ranked second in the state in Div. II.
Also for Hubbard, Nicole Pringle had 34 assists, Traci Hassell had 38 assists, Kristen McMonagle had 14 digs, Jessica Williams had 10 digs and Diana Conzett and Megan Oltman each had nine kills.

CANTON -- Erica Wilson had 22 points, Taryn Perkins eight dinks and a kill and Ashley Myers three blocks for Rayen (4-3, 3-2 City Series) in its win over Wilson.
Against Chaney, Brittany Hines led the Tigers with 15 points, while Wilson had two kills and six blocks and Perkins one kill and four dinks.
Against Timken, Wilson led Rayen with six blocks.
Salem 14-15-15, Stow 16-7-9West Holmes 15-15, Salem 10-2
SALEM -- Salem's record reached 6-2 after a win over Stow and a loss to West Holmes, the state's No. 4-ranked team in Division II.
In Salem's win over Stow, Kelli Crouse had 12 kills, one ace and one tip; Sarah Hamilton had two aces, four kills, one tip and three blocks; Lauren Teal had four kills and three blocks and Taylor Hendricks had three aces and four kills for Salem.
West Holmes beat Salem in straight sets, with Hendricks getting six kills and one ace and Teal three kills and one block.
After West Holmes' 15-6, 15-12 win over Stow, West Holmes went to 8-0, while Stow dipped to 5-3.

HANOVERTON -- Jen Weingart scored 10 points, with five kills, two blocks, 14 passes and four digs to spark the Warriors. Dena New had six points, eight assists, two passes and a dig. Taylor Woods had seven points, six passes, four digs and an assist.
Against United, Amy Beth Edie scored seven points, with three kills and three passes for the Warriors (10-1).
New added nine points, five assists, two passes and a dig. Amber Metzgar had four points, 10 assists, six passes, two digs, two blocks and a kill.

LORDSTOWN -- Alycia Israel scored 12 points, with two aces, 27 assists and two blocks. Twin sister Christa Israel had eight points, four aces and a block.
Janelle Beaver had five points, 10 kills, five blocks and a dig. Amanda Kistler had seven kills, two digs and a block.
Against Sebring, Alycia Israel scored 11 points, with an ace and 26 assists for the Red Devils (5-2). Emily Rech had nine points and a kill. Beaver had two aces, five kills and 13 blocks. Kistler had six kills, one ace, one dig, one block.
Staci Witson led the Trojans with eight points and three aces.

NORTH JACKSON -- Erika Stamm had 14 points, two aces, 13 assists and 37 sets, while Shauna Durig came up with six points, two aces and six digs for the Bluejays (4-3, 2-2 Inter-County League).
Brittany Parks led the Mustangs with three points, 15 assists and a kill, while Jaci Bahrey had two aces, five kills, a block and two digs.
