NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The eighth annual POW/MIA recognition day will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lawrence County Government Center.
The guest speaker will be Don Conti, chairman of the board of directors for the New Castle Area Transit Authority. A reception will follow in the first floor of the government center. Guests and the public are invited.
Any former prisoner of war who now lives in Lawrence County is asked to register with the Lawrence County Veterans Office by calling (724) 656-2137 or (724) 656-2180. Invitations will be mailed to all former POWs. The ceremony will be moved inside in case of bad weather.
Restaurant Revue raises funds for United Way
SHARON, Pa. -- United Way of Mercer County will kick off its 2002 campaign with the annual Restaurant Revue from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at The Rosemont Banquet & amp; Conference Center, 200 Sterling Ave.
The United Way has set a goal of $1,150,000 for this year, and 18 of the area's restaurants and beverage vendors will provide samples of their favorite dishes and beverages for those attending the event.
Tickets are $35 and may be obtained by contacting the United Way office at (724) 981-1884, the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce at (724) 981-5880 or The Rosemont at (724) 981-7384. About 500 people attended last year.
