Helle leads Indians in rout of Lakeview Bulldogs, 34-13



GIRARD -- Girard High quarterback Matt Zuppo connected on 20-of-30 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown Friday as the Indians defeated Lakeview, 34-13.
Indians senior wide receiver Dustin Helle returned the kickoff to start the third quarter 88 yards for a TD.
He also caught a 29-yard scoring strike from Zuppo and finished with three catches for 60 yards.
Helle also rushed two times for 39 yards and intercepted a pass.
Senior Mark Grdinich scored a 3-yard touchdown and his brother, Adam, added a 1-yard touchdown. Mark Grdinich caught six balls for 39 yards and Victor Mills caught three for 59.
Lakeview (2-2, 0-1) quarterback Kevin Rigby hit on 8-of-22 passes for 112 yards, including TD strikes of 65 and 8 yards to Brent McCullouch and Dave Costas, respectively.
Girard had a 21-8 advantage in first downs.
Brookfield 41, LaBrae 24
LEAVITTSBURG -- Lou Scudere rushed for 109 yards on 19 carries and scored four touchdowns to lead Brookfield past LaBrae.
Scudere scored on runs of 10, 30 and 5 yards and returned a kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown.
Julian Hayes added 76 yards on three carries and a touchdown for the Warriors (3-1, 1-0 TAC).
LaBrae (0-4, 0-1) quarterback Todd Rowan completed 13-of-25 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns and an interception.
Danny Hartman made seven catches for 109 yards.
The Vikings also got 94 yards on 13 carries from Gary Bush.
Liberty 21, Champion 16
CHAMPION -- Bradley Fletcher rushed for 127 yards on seven carries and scored on an 8-yard run to seal Liberty's (3-1, 1-0) victory in the fourth quarter.
Mike Marvin put the Leopards ahead for keeps when he raced 41 yards for a TD in the first period. Teammate Steve Patterson tallied on a 22-yard run.
Brian Smith scored twice for Champion (2-2, 0-1 TAC) on runs of 4 and 10 yards.
